To focus on the big picture is the first step for leaders achieve their goal and develop Level Five leadership.
Most people understand technical part– being on the right track and industrial insights, but miss another one– a healthy Ego that Humility can reflect. Unless they can naturally focus on the big picture, leaders may be able to tell an ass kisser from a praiser but choose the ass kisser to satisfy their Ego and get back fired. These behaviors are mainly secondary to an unhealthy Ego.
In addition, it can be challenging to stay focused when disruptions and changes can emerge from any direction since the new needs can throw leaders out of their capacity. It can be harder to focus on the big picture in the storm since the storm can shut down leaders’ mind and body. Furthermore, strategies, culture, innovation, conflicts, etc. can all cause leaders miss the big picture.
